Billings Spanish Academy Mission

Billings Spanish Academy

Located in southern Montana, the city of Billings contains much Spanish culture and heritage as its population continues to grow. This trait is not only in the city but also statewide. Montana’s Hispanic and Latino population has increased from 1.3 to 2.5 percent over the last 26 years. Billings’ population was listed at 99,527 in the 2006 U.S. Census Bureau.

Billings recognizes the Hispanic and Latino cultures with mariachi bands, Latin musicians and other cultural activities friendly to this heritage. The city’s public library also has events and groups, such as a Hispanic Outreach Committee to make residents of this origin feel more comfortable and welcome in Billings. Many celebrations and events can be bilingual and have a goal of teaching children and others important facts about Latino culture. There also are other partnerships and initiatives that can be specific to those of Hispanic origin.

Billings’ strong diversity and Hispanic traditions are just a few examples of why children would benefit from learning more about the Spanish language and culture.
